The Delta Air Lines Flight Operations Center is a state-of-the-art pilot training facility near the Salt Lake City International Airport. Hunt Electric provided comprehensive electrical and technology services for this 49,176 sq. ft., two-story facility. The building features four high-ceiling bays with full motion simulators, four procedure trainers, seven classrooms, ten briefing rooms, a conference room, offices, and employee amenities. Our scope included electrical distribution, structured cabling, AV systems, and integrating an innovative Halio Electrochromic Glass system, which automatically tints windows based on sunlight.
Our team was responsible for the complete electrical package, including lighting, power distribution, and a specialized Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system for the simulators to ensure continuous operation. Hunt’s Technology Division handled structured cabling throughout the building, supporting training and shared spaces. Additionally, we installed AV systems in classrooms and office spaces. The Electrochromic Glass system was one of the facility’s standout features, providing privacy and energy efficiency. Hunt Electric managed the electrical connections and cabling for the glass, as well as its programming and commissioning.
Hunt Electric utilized Building Information Modeling (BIM) and prefabrication for the one-line conduit systems to properly coordinate and streamline the project, which helped reduce installation time and minimize coordination challenges. Despite the tight 12-month project schedule, our team worked closely with the general contractor, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery. We also took on additional work to connect power to the simulators, an element not initially included in the scope but critical to the project’s success.
Hunt Electric played a key role in delivering a high-tech, fully functional facility that meets the critical needs of Delta’s training operations while positioning Salt Lake City as a future hub for pilot training.
