Hexcel is a global leader in supplying advanced, lightweight, high-performance composite materials to the commercial aerospace, space and defense, and industrial markets. Hunt Electric was the electrical design-build contractor on their new 100,000-square-foot Center of Research & Technology Excellence. The Center is co-located with the company’s existing carbon fiber manufacturing facility on its Salt Lake City, Utah campus.
The Center contains a two-story office complex and a 48,248-square-foot laboratory for testing, quality control, and manufacturing. Hunt designed and installed an electrical system capable of supporting more than 300 pieces of owner-provided equipment for all six labs in the facility, including the General Lab, Chemical Lab, Creel Room and Prepreg Lab, Mechanical Test Lab, Analytical Lab, and Microscopy Lab. We overcame the complexity of this challenge by communicating and coordinating closely with the owner, general contractor, and other design team members to ensure the equipment was placed, oriented, and installed correctly. Despite its challenges due to the supply chain created by the pandemic and the complex operational elements, the project was completed on schedule.
Hunt's Electrical division, our Engineering team, the Traffic and Infrastructure division, and our Technology division's Audiovisual department contributed to the project.
