Morgan City Power Conversion

Hunt Electric was brought on to this project to convert the power system that covered 50% of the city of Morgan from 4kV to 12.47kV. The scope of work included installing new wire and poles to convert the power system. One of the difficult tasks that needed to be done for Morgan City was to replace 50-year-old pole lines to provide better service. This meant rerouting some powerlines to property lines and creating new services to the homes. The project was done with hot power lines, which even though caused a slower process made it a safer one. To maintain safety procedures and effective working conditions, the Hunt Electric team had to be cautious with local traffic and old material found on site which made building the new lines dangerous. Additionally, the energized conductor node that entailed the new line made it difficult to handle, but the crew was up to the challenge and worked their way around it.
